Get Your Prosthetic Device from Us in Penticton

At Action Orthotics & Prosthetics in Penticton, we provide prosthetic devices that are lightweight and comfortable to help improve mobility and promote independence. As your go-to prosthetic experts, we can custom-fit and fabricate upper and lower limb prosthetic devices (also called prostheses) for you. Prosthesis is defined as being a functional replacement for an amputated or congenitally malformed or missing limb. Usually, prostheses are prescribed by a physician (either a physiatrist or vascular surgeon) and then custom-made and integrated by our certified prosthetist.

Prostheses are fabricated from plaster of Paris casts of your affected limbs and made of lightweight carbon fiber laminations. They can also be made of other materials, including Kevlar and/or thermoplastic materials. Our aim is to provide a personalized product, and to achieve this we still hand-cast most of our amputees.

Prosthetic Care Requirements

While a person may require the use of a prosthetic for many different reasons, some common causes of amputation include:

  • Diabetes and/or Peripheral Vascular Disease

  • Trauma (motor vehicle accidents, industrial accidents, etc.)

  • Other diseases including cancer and meningitis

  • Congenital (at birth) malformation or absence of a Limb

Providing Your Continued Comfort

Whether you have worn an artificial device for many years or you are a new amputee just getting mobile post amputation, we offer quality care, and prosthetic devices to meet all of your daily living and/or sporting needs. We work directly with a team of medical professionals including surgeons, physical therapists and your primary care physician to achieve the best results for you. To ensure optimum use of your prosthetic, we ensure follow-up appointments with our staff. This helps us keep a track of any changing conditions or requirements you may experience through our prosthetic care. We will listen to your questions and address any concerns you may have. You can share with us your overall goals to ensure a smooth transition. We also keep up-to-date on the latest technology designed for your continued comfort and ease of living. Give us a call to schedule a visit.

We offer in-hospital visits when needed.

Prosthetic Funding

All amputees in B.C. are eligible for prosthetic funding through the government run fair pharmacare program. This program will cover most daily living prosthetic devices. Whether your prosthetic is funded 100% is based on family income, and that determines whether you have a yearly deductible to pay. Once you have registered for pharmacare, we will take your prescription and submit our paperwork for prosthetic approval on your behalf. Approvals can take 2-3 weeks.

The War Amps of Canada will often also help with some funding towards your prosthetic when required.

Our knowledgeable staff will help guide you through this process to ensure receiving your new prosthetic is as pain-free as possible.

Prosthetic Care for You

Our goal is to ensure your prosthetic device helps you stay mobile and independent.
